The gym was empty when Marcus got there, just the way he liked it. The show had rented out a large majority of the hotel, but Marcus knew there were still a few other guests milling around the premises. He enjoyed meeting his fans, but when he was in the gym, he liked to keep his head down and get work done.
He got started on stretching and then moved to the free-standing weights. It was a bit harder to get a good workout in without someone to spot him, but Marcus had to work out on his own enough that he had a pretty good system down.
He had a decent sweat going when he heard the gym door open behind him. He turned and felt his heart drop when it wasn't who he was hoping would walk through those doors.
He was getting way too attached to Sophie.
"Hey. I can come back another time if you'd rather have the gym to yourself," Victoria said with a seductive smile that Marcus knew would work on most men. Heck, it would have worked on him if he wasn’t so focused on Sophie. Maybe Victoria's smile was what Marcus needed?
"Have at it," Marcus said as he went back to the squats he'd been doing.
Light music played in the background of the gym, and only the sound of Marcus' weights going up and down accompanied it. He knew most people loved to blare their own music as they worked out, but Marcus found the quiet much more comforting. He liked to be alone with his thoughts. At least when they weren't plagued with his partner who had no use for him.
He began to realize that no other sounds of exercise were echoing in the gym, and he looked in the mirror to see what was happening behind him. Was Victoria still there? As he worked out, he tried to block out everything but watching his own form, and he honestly could have missed if Victoria had ended up leaving the room.
But a quick glance behind him told her she was indeed still there. Just sitting on a bench in her sports bra and legging shorts. And a smile on her face as soon as his eyes met hers.
Okay.
"You caught me," she said as she stood and began to stretch.
Marcus knew her movements were meant to catch his attention, but all he could think about was the way Sophie had moved the evening before and ... he needed to stop thinking about Sophie.
"Caught you?" Marcus asked.
"I didn't come to work out. I actually hate working out," Victoria said, and Marcus wasn't sure how to respond. So he didn't.
"I've heard about your charity. I love your cause, and I'd love to help," Victoria continued, and Marcus could already feel the but coming.
"You might have heard I just went through a bad breakup. He made me look really pathetic. Said I couldn't hold his attention." Victoria murmured a few words under her breath that his football buddies would have been startled to hear come out of such a pretty mouth.
